In 2008, Howden Saggers have been appearing for people on a daily basis in driving cases. Whilst most of these have been drink driving cases, we have seen an increase in applications for work licences and special hardship licences.

I anticipate more people will apply for a special hardship licence once awareness rises. If somebody is on a good behaviour licence and is booked by police for speeding or holding a mobile phone while driving, then their licence is suspended for six months. However they may be entitled to a special hardship licence.

Police are now testing people who drive under the influence of drugs.
Expect to see drug driving testing vans around popular venues such as those in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.
Tests are being conducted for Ecstasy, Cannabis and ICE.
The saliva tests will look for the active ingriedient of Cannabis only, and will indicate if you have consumed that drug and are under its influence.
