Caught Speeding By Traffic Camera (March 2009)

Whilst driving his car on the Bruce Highway, our client was pursued by a group of thugs in another vehicle. He sped away and drove past a traffic camera. His speed was clocked at 126 km/ph. He immediately went to the police station. Our client was advised that he had a defence of extraordinary emergency and we then contacted the police prosecutions to obtain photographs of the vehicles as they passed the speed camera. A submission was then forwarded to police.

Murder Reduced To Manslaughter

Peter Saggers acted for ‘C’ who was charged with the murder of her defacto husband. After committal hearing, and as a result of negotiations, a plea of guilty was entered to manslaughter. ‘C’ was sentenced to 8 years imprisonment with a declaration that she had served 613 days in pre-sentence custody towards that sentence.

No Conviction Recorded For Medical Student (March 2009)

Peter Saggers appeared for ‘A’ in the Brisbane Magistrates Court. ‘A’ was charged with stealing a large quantity of clothes from Myers. ‘A’ was placed on a good behaviour bond for 6 months and a conviction was not recorded. ‘A’ is now a registered medical practitioner.

Attempted Murder Charges Dropped (March 2009)

Peter Saggers acted for ‘H’ who was initially charged with attempted murder, but after negotiations with the Director of Public Prosecutions, pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm. He had twice shot a person known to him. ‘H’ was physically disabled and frightened of the victim. He was sentenced to 5 years imprisonment suspended after 18 months for an operational period of 5 years.

Jail Avoided For Supply Of Hash Cookie (March 2009)

‘S’ pleaded guilty to supplying another person with a hash cookie, that person not being aware that it was in fact such a cookie. ‘S’ was sentenced to 6 months imprisonment wholly suspended for an operational period of 9 months.

Jail Avoided For Attempt To Pervert Justice Charge – January 2009

Our client was charged with offering a service station attendant money to erase video footage of a drink driving offence in which he was involved. The prosecution asked for 6 months jail and the recording of a conviction. Kate Juhasz successfully argued that recording a conviction would have a negative affect on his career and as a result, a probation and community service order was made with no conviction recorded.
